See You At Upstate Art Weekend!
Me, Arc Ceramics, and Jamie Kennard at West Kill Brewing 7/22 & 7/23
Got plans for next weekend? Well… Please come hang out with me and my neighbors/friends/wildly talented collaborators Arc Ceramics and Jamie Kennard at West Kill Brewing on Sat/Sun July 22nd and 23rd as part of Upstate Art Weekend!
We’ve teamed up to bring you a group show of our paintings, ceramics, and photos. Come for the art, stay for the ICE COLD DELICIOUS BEER!
When I moved to the Catskills a decade ago this was my dream: to find an artistic and outdoors community where in the course of a day I could go fly fishing, paint, and who knows, maybe find some way to combine the two in a way I’d never even imagined with fascinating and talented people. And look, we’ve done it!
I can’t speak highly enough about the two friends I’ll be showing with next weekend. For readers of this Substack, you already might know Arc Ceramics’ work. We have about twelve more collaborative pieces that will be ready for the show. Our first run of these sold out in about 36 hours online. (THANK YOU!) We’re going to let people who come to our show next weekend in person have first dibs on this next round.
She’ll also have a handful of mesmerizing and sculptural pieces (without my paint all over them) for sale too!
Jamie is someone I’ve been lucky enough to fish/hike/ski with over pretty much every inch of the Catskills and beyond. Often the paintings I make are from views or fish we’ve seen on our adventures together. What I don’t paint, is him in the background lugging all kinds of heavy camera equipment on the creeks/trails/pistes. I’m so happy he does!
Prints of several of his recent photographs will be available next weekend in 16” x 20”, 18” x 30” and 11” x 14” sizes. (And BTW, part of “heavy camera equipment” are long lenses so that he’s not within petting distance of a bear like this one!)
Speaking of prints… I have a new 11” x 17” one too! This print features a brook, a rainbow, a cutthroat, and a brown trout. It is available in my online shop and will be for sale at Upstate Art Weekend too.
I’ll also have some bigger original paintings for sale like this 4’ x 4’ view of the meadow between the Spruceton Inn and West Kill Brewing catching the perfect sliver of yellow morning light.
But wait—there’s more! Spruceton Inn is taking part in Upstate Art Weekend too! In the barn you’ll be able to find a celebration of the 79 Resident Artists over our past decade!
Still need more art? You can find it all over the Catskills/Hudson Valley region as part of Upstate Art Weekend. I highly recommend checking out their convenient Google map while you plot out your itinerary!
See you next weekend!
-Steven
PS - Thanks Peter Crosby for the shot of us three by my super cool 25 year old truck.
